Red galangal root

Red galangal (Lesser Galangal) has the scientific name Alpinia Officinarum Hance. In Vietnam, red galangal is also known by other names such as medicinal galangal, luong Khuong.

Galangal is a large genus of plants, with less than 230 species and belonging to the Ginger family (Zingiberaceae). Red galangal is a species of plant in the galangal genus, believed to have originated in China.

Red galangal is considered a precious medicine that grows popularly in the Northwest region of our country. Red galangal root can be used as a spice and medicine. However, today not everyone knows all the benefits of this root.

Chemical composition of red galangal root
In galangal root, there are from 0.5 to 1% of camphor essential oil. The oil itself is a bit viscous, mainly containing xineola and methylxinnamate.

0.1% three crystals are tasteless flavone derivatives. These three substances are galangin, alpine and kaempfert.
