What is a palm fruit?
For the most part, palm fruit is concentrated in the central and northern provinces of Vietnam. This fruit belongs to the oil palm tree, the trunk is large and tall, with thorns. From late October to early November every year, the palm fruit begins to ripen and the outer skin turns dark green, glossy brown. At the same time, the thick outer layer contains a lot of oil and the inside is the palm kernel.

People often pick palm fruits by tickling trees (tie the sickle on a pole). This way the palm fruit is not scratched and ensures a fresh taste. In addition, the most delicious palm is usually harvested from perennial trees that are not pruned, soaring and unreachable.

 

According to local people, the palm fruit has a rather acrid taste, so they are often cooked (cooked) to increase the flesh, sweetness and fat. After harvesting, the palm fruit will be washed and mixed with pieces of old cork for peeling. Next, people continue to pour boiling water about 85 - 90 degrees Celsius into the palm pot and leave it for about 15-20 minutes to soften the palm.

If the water is too hot, the palm will shrivel, eat hard and become acrid. When cooked for too long, this fruit will become soft and reduce the characteristic fatty taste. Therefore, the maker must be extremely skillful and laborious to produce delicious batches of brushes.

 

The price of a palm?
There are two types of palm fruit: sticky brush and ordinary brush (regular brush). The taste of both is quite similar and only differs in the softness and flexibility of the pulp. Sticky palm eats sweeter, more fleshy, so it usually costs about 100,000 to 110,000 VND/kg.

The price of ordinary palm is from 60,000 to 65,000 VND/kg. Besides, if customers want to buy soft palm, some places will always be quiet and charge an additional fee of 5,000 VND/kg. Not only is it a "heartwarming" snack for office workers, palm fruit is also used as an ingredient to create many delicious dishes.
